Corporate Social Responsibilities Initiatives.

Dutco Balfour Beatty L.L.C (DBB) was formally incorporated in 1977 following the successful completion of the Jebel Ali Port Project. Over the years, the organization has evolved into a leading contractor in the UAE operating to an Integrated Management System (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001) with a well established record for timely delivery and customer satisfaction. The company currently employs around 12,000 people and in spite of its ever increasing order book, DBB has never shirked its role in ensuring Corporate Social Responsibility towards its stakeholders. The organization has identified the following perception measures to measure the degree of Corporate Social Responsibility it demonstrates towards its stakeholders:-

  • Efforts to becoming a responsible citizen – The organization is an active member of leading associations like Emirates Environmental Group,UAE Chamber of Commerce, Dubai QualityGroup, UAE Contractors Association, British Business Group, UAE Society of Engineers, etc.DBB has very recently established BuildSafe Dubai in collaboration with like minded international and UAE based construction companies to create a better awareness of the importance of health, safety and welfare of industry stakeholders through free and frank sharing of information among them.

  • Efforts to involve in the community where it operates - The organization has sponsored numerous charitable initiatives having an impact onsociety throughout Dubai. Specific instances include the following:-

  1. DBB has been an active participant in Cleanup UAE Campaign held by Emirates Environmental Group over the last several years.

  2. DBB has participated actively in the Paper, Toner & Can Recycling Campaigns organized by Emirates Environmental Group. In addition to this, DBB has bagged the Winners Trophy for recycling maximum used cartridges among companies consecutively for the last 3 years.

  3. DBB has been an active sponsor of Cleanup the World Campaign organized by Dubai Municipality over the last several years in which several of our employees have actively participated.

  4. DBB has sponsored Charity Football Matches organized by the Shaikh Rashid Programme for Leadership Development in aid of Dubai Autism Centre.

  5. In coordination with Emirates Environmental Group, DBB has set up on its premises 2 recycling centres for the collection of paper, plastic and empty cans(see fig alongside) where these wastes are segregated on a daily basis and sent to EEG for recycling.

  6. DBB has undertaken several charitable building projects for Rashid Paediatric Centre and Dubai Autism Centre.

  • Efforts towards being a responsible employee

  1. DBB ensures fairness in terms of employment and strives to maintain a multicultural and multinational working environment to support the organization’s functioning. In all Policy decisions, it is ensured that redundancy of jobs is totally avoided. As a service company dependant on external orders, the business entails periodic fluctuations and variations but the issue of redundancy of employees is never considered.

  2. DBB has undertaken several initiatives to improve the welfare of its employees. These include the provision of energy drinks to site personnel, restrooms for employees to relax during breaks, provide employees with ATM cards to withdraw salaries at their convenience, and providing toolbox talks via our Mobile Safety Training Unit (MSTU) which moves from site to site thus eliminating the need for employees to come to the main office and the setting up of a full fledged medical clinic headed by a full time doctor and assisted by trained male nurses. Apart from this, project sites are equipped with satellite clinics headed by trained nurses who report to the doctor.

  3. The organization encourages its employees to actively participate in forums like Emirates Environmental Group, Dubai Quality Group, Dubai Quality Award, BuildSafe Dubai & UAE Contractors Association. DBB also organises an Innovative Ideas Competition annually to encourage employees to suggest innovative ideas relating to Cost, Quality, Health & Safety, Environment and Productivity and rewards deserving suggestions. DBB also recognises outstanding employees with Safety Employee of the Month, Safety Team Leader of the Month awards and honours long serving employees with Long Service Awards at the Annual Staff Party held during December.

  • Efforts towards Emiratization - DBB has strived consistently in efforts towards recruitment of UAE nationals. With the establishment of a full fledged Emiratization dept. in 2007 , efforts in this direction received a major boost. In an effort to encourage UAE nationals, DBB has actively participated in UAE Career Exhibitions from 2006 onwards. DBB also encourages nationals from local universities to take up short term assignments with us. With the above Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives in place and several others being planned for the future, DBB constantly strives to be a leader in implementing CSR initiatives to all its stakeholders and in the process set a benchmark to other organizations.
